What is teeth whitening?
A treatment to whiten your teeth
Teeth whitening is a safe and cosmetic treatment that lightens the shade of your teeth to reduce discoloration caused by aging, certain foods, beverages (coffee, tea, red wine) or tobacco.
During a comprehensive or follow-up exam, our dentists first assess the health of your mouth, particularly the condition of your enamel, before recommending one of our two treatments:
Professional whitening
We apply a highly potent whitening gel to your teeth using the necessary protections. You leave with a visibly whiter smile the same day.
At-home whitening
We create custom trays from digital impressions of your mouth. Compared to over-the-counter whitening strips, your custom trays allow better control of the gel on your teeth and prevent it from overflowing onto the gums. You apply the whitening gel inside the trays and wear them at home for a few hours a day (or overnight) for 1 to 2 weeks

Keep your teeth whiter for longer
Immediately after the treatment
Mild tooth sensitivity is normal and temporary after whitening, especially within the first 24 to 48 hours following the treatment. Avoid very hot or very cold foods and drinks during this period. We recommend using toothpaste for sensitive teeth throughout the whitening treatment and even a few days before starting it.
Foods and drinks to avoid (First 48 hours)
Your teeth are more porous immediately after whitening and absorb stains more easily. For 48 hours, avoid: coffee, tea, red wine, colored soft drinks, beets, tomato sauce, soy sauce, berries, chocolate, and tobacco. Opt for white or pale foods instead (chicken, fish, rice, white pasta, bananas, potatoes).
Maintaining the results
To keep your teeth whiter for longer, maintain rigorous oral hygiene habits. Brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, and schedule regular professional cleanings. Limit the consumption of staining foods and drinks, or rinse your mouth with water after consuming them. Use a straw for colored beverages. Avoid tobacco.
Maintenance treatment
We recommend a maintenance treatment every 12 to 24 months to preserve the brightness of your smile. If you choose at-home whitening, you can reuse your custom trays and obtain new gel syringes from the clinic. One to two applications are usually enough to refresh your results.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about teeth whitening
Are the results long-lasting?
Yes. Your teeth can remain whiter for 1 to 2 years. This depends on your eating habits and oral hygiene. To prolong the results, we also recommend a maintenance treatment every 12 to 24 months.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes, when teeth whitening is performed under professional supervision. Our dentists first assess the health of your teeth and gums to ensure you are a suitable candidate. We use professional-grade gels to protect your enamel and gums during the treatment. Temporary sensitivity may occur, but it disappears quickly.
Does whitening work on all teeth?
Whitening is very effective on natural teeth that have yellowed due to aging, food, or tobacco. However, it does not work on existing dental restorations (crowns, veneers, fillings), which will retain their original color. During your dental exam, we assess your expectations and recommend realistic solutions.
